Through Music
Group classes for violin and viola students ages 6-16 at Moore Music Company in Greensboro, NC (Summer 2024).
Class Goals:
- Authentically representing the historical background of each song and movement, and trying to tell the stories of the people, music, and movements accurately and without bias.
- Accommodating for a heterogeneous age group of students and levels of violin/viola technique. Additionally, accommodating different learning, processing, and practicing styles as equitably as possible. Providing iconic notation options for those who need.
- Allowing significant class time and space for student input and voices. Make space for students to discuss the music and context. This informs the music-making.
- Integrating discussion and music making as much as possible, while also having comfortable boundaries to isolate specific technical and musical needs. Fostering age-appropriate discussions with students and managing a respectful, equitable, and justice oriented learning environment.
